Built for largescale public lighting retrofits, the NEMAformat smart street light controller features standard NEMA interface for true plugandplay installation. Field crews replace devices without heavy cable rework, greatly cutting construction time. It supports NBIoT, LoRa, LoRaMesh and PLC communications for flexible selection based on local signal and project budget. It monitors voltage, current, power and temperature, detects pole tilt and obtains GNSS timesync data. Its internal clock autocalculates sunrise and sunset for adaptive dimming. Optimized relays reduce switching wear to extend service life, while openAPI enables easy integration with thirdparty platforms. Highgrade outdoor protection guarantees stable performance under rain, dust and temperature extremes, backed by reliable longterm warranty.

As the core data hub of the lighting system, the industrial LoRaWAN IoT gateway receives, processes and forwards data from numerous field terminals to cloud servers with low latency. It supports global frequency bands and multichannel data reception, encapsulating field data into standard Ethernet packets. Powered by 220V AC, it uses a rugged castiron housing with IP67 rating for harsh polemounted outdoor deployment. Running Linux, it offers edge computing, Python development, multiple serial ports and embedded network server. Backhaul options include 4G, WiFi and wired network; signal covers 25 km in cities and 510 km in suburbs. Beyond street lights, it aggregates IoT data from water meters, environment sensors and smoke detectors for citysmart infrastructure.

There is tight logical linkage between NEMA street light controllers and LoRaWAN gateways, and the two categories of hardware must cooperate to deliver complete smart lighting functions. Every controller installed on individual street lamp collects realtime working status, electrical reading and fault warning information locally, then these data are sent out through LoRa radio signals. The LoRaWAN gateway mounted on key lamp poles receives wireless data streams from dispersed controllers within signal coverage range, it filters and integrates scattered mass data instead of transmitting raw fragmented messages directly. Without this matching gateway, those standalone controllers cannot push onsite information to remote cloud platforms, and remote centralized management will become impossible.

After the gateway finishes preliminary data aggregation, processed information will be delivered to upperlevel cloud management platform. System operators can view every street lamp’s working condition on digital dashboard, remotely adjust brightness output or send onoff commands to single lamps or lamp groups. Once abnormal indexes such as overheating, current anomaly or lamp pole inclination appear, controllers will trigger alarm messages, these warning signals will pass through gateway and sync to management end immediately, maintenance personnel can locate fault points accurately before receiving user complaints. The whole interaction flow forms closedloop workflow from onsite perception, wireless transmission, gateway processing to cloud remote operation.

This interlinked hardware combination brings tangible practical value for municipal lighting operation. Manual regular patrol inspection workload gets largely cut down, maintenance crews only need to respond for confirmed fault alerts instead of checking each lamp one by one. Dynamic brightness adjustment follows natural daylight changes, unnecessary power waste gets avoided, and overall power consumption of urban public lighting drops evidently. Compared with traditional fixedmode street light system, the collaborative solution lowers longterm operation and maintenance expenditure for municipal departments, and it also supports carbon reduction targets for modern smart city construction.
